Climate of Kamchatka

The climate of the Kamchatka region is rather humid and cool. The reason for this is the Sea of Okhotsk, the Pacific Ocean, the cold ocean current originating in the Arctic Ocean and washing the eastern shores of Kamchatka. In the central part of the peninsula, the climate is closer to the continental, sunny days are much more here than on the coasts, and winters are colder. In the western and eastern regions of Kamchatka, the climate is more wet with a monsoon character, frequent fogs and drizzling rain. In the northern part of the region - even subarctic.
Summer in Kamchatka is shorter than winter, often has a large number of cloudy days. Snow comes down in May-June, but the snowfields continue to lie on the hills until the end of June and longer. The warmest time is from the beginning of July to the end of August. The temperature in summer can reach up to 25 ° C on the coasts and up to 35 ° C in inland areas. At the same time, in the coastal areas, warm sunny weather can abruptly be replaced by a piercing wind with drizzle and a temperature of +10 ° C. In September, the Indian summer begins in Kamchatka, relatively warm sunny weather sets in, and many people believe that this is the best time to travel around Kamchatka, although frosts are often in the morning.
камчатская весна
Kamchatka winter is characterized by a huge amount of snow. Cyclones and typhoons from Japan bring heavy rainfall. For one night blizzard sweeps cars over the roof. There were cases when the snow fell to the windows of the second floor of the five-story building, people had to dig a tunnel from the entrance. Winter temperatures can be up to minus 30 ° C in the north of the region and to minus 10 ° C in the south. The coldest month in the coastal zones is February, in the central part and in the north of the region - January. Often there are thaws, sometimes the frosts can suddenly change to plus temperature, and then frosts come again.
The months of March and April are ideal for ski trips, winter climbing volcanoes and alpine skiing. There is a lot of snow at this time and the air temperature is set near zero, and on sunny days it is up to + 5-10 ° С. The rays of the sun, reflected from the pure white snow, warm almost as in summer, that skiers use, acquiring the most resistant snow tan.
