Fauna of Kamchatka

The animal world of Kamchatka is diverse and distributed over the territory in accordance with the peculiarities of the relief and climatic zones of the peninsula. Forest, mountain, arctic species of animals live here. For example, sable, lynx, bear, elk are typically taiga species. Reindeer, arctic fox, tundra partridge - representatives of the tundra zone. The bighorn sheep, black-capped marmot and northern pika are inhabitants of highlands. In total, there are 918 species of animals, birds and fish in the territory of Kamchatka and the adjacent water areas.
Fauna of Kamchatka can also be called an island. The fact is that the peninsula is separated from the mainland by Parapolsky valley, this is a low-lying area, representing a tundra with numerous swamps and lakes. But, nevertheless, animals migrate periodically through this barrier. So in the 20s of the last century a squirrel migrated here from the mainland, and today it can easily be found in the forests of the peninsula, and in the 30s the lynx migrated to the peninsula.
The nature of the peninsula is still virtually untouched by man, so traveling around Kamchatka you can see a lot of animals: elk, wolverine, hare, fox, sable, squirrel, bighorn sheep, black-capped marmot, berengi gopher, and of course the brown bear.

The bear is undoubtedly the king of the Kamchatka animals. This is the largest subspecies of the brown bear in Asia, the weight of males can reach up to 700 kg. Their main diet is spawning salmon, berries and roots. It can be found in the summer on spawning rivers, closer to autumn - on the berries, in the spring it often rises on the slopes of mountains and volcanoes above the forest zone.

The marine fauna of the surrounding areas is very rich. Among marine mammals, there are 7 species of pinnipeds: walrus, sea lions, fur seal, sea hare, seal, anthur, largha. On sea trips you can meet cetaceans: sperm whales, killer whales, dolphins, several types of whales. The coastal waters of Kamchatka are especially rich in fish resources. Here, various species of marine fish are harvested: cod, herring, perch, and many others, as well as several species of crab and shrimp.
Kamchatka is famous for its red fish and caviar. Here in the rivers and lakes all kinds of Pacific salmon spawn: pink salmon, chum salmon, coho salmon, chinook salmon, sockeye salmon, sima salmon. You can also almost always catch a loach, grayling or a rainbow trout. Fishing in Kamchatka is generally a popular activity, both among locals and tourists.
