In order to see the vast expanses water of the Pacific Ocean, it is enough to visit the Khalaktyrsky beach, which is located 30-40 minutes from the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
Khalaktyrsky beach is a wide flat coast of the ocean, covered with black sand. The length of the coastal beach is about 30 km, and the width is about 100 m. There are no settlements near the beach, since this area is considered dangerous because of the threat of a tsunami. Until the beginning of the 50s, there was a village in the mouth of the Khalaktyrka river, whose inhabitants were gradually relocated into the depths of the peninsula precisely because of a possible tsunami. Indeed, during strong earthquakes, the height of the tsunami wave can reach 15 meters and penetrate freely deep into the flat area of the beach.
On the territory of the Khalaktyrsky beach, you can see trenches, shooting ranges, and dugouts, which have survived from the Second World War. During the Cold War, the beach area was also guarded as one of the possible ways of landing an enemy landing.
